It’s hope and it’s high expectations that are going to make this world a better place. I try to live by that. Honestly, I really think there’s way too much to do for me to have cancer

Dear family and friends,

It is with a broken heart that I write to let you know of Ellie's passing on Monday. She was surrounded by me and our three children (Nick-23, Kate-21 and Joey-18), Nick's fiancé Katrina and her sister Lynda. She was 55.

I met Ellie when we were both first year medical students at Georgetown. She was 24. We were brought together by fate, having been assigned the same cadaver in anatomy class based on our alphabetically consecutive last names. We embarked on a wonderful, challenging, emotional relationship throughout our years in D.C. and we have never lived apart since, moving together to Boston and finally the Bay Area in 2000. We had three beautiful children while pursuing our careers.

She was the love of my life.
